Andrew Farhat: Education, Ministry Formation, and Service Within the Lutheran Church
The life of Andrew Farhat demonstrates a progression shaped by education, faith formation, and pastoral service within the Lutheran tradition. From early academic and athletic development to theological training and leadership in ministry, the path of Andrew Farhat reflects consistency, discipline, and long-term commitment to Christian vocation.
Andrew Farhat was born in 1980 in Seattle, Washington, to Bill and Ferial Farhat, Lebanese immigrants who established a new life in the United States after fleeing poverty and the Lebanese Civil War. The early years of Andrew Farhat were spent in the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle, where family, education, and community played central roles in daily life.
Durante school years, Andrew Farhat demonstrated strong academic performance alongside extensive involvement in athletics. Competitive sports became a formative environment where leadership and perseverance were developed. In eighth grade, Andrew Farhat earned recognition as the Most Valuable Player of a basketball team, including a game in which Andrew Farhat scored 42 points against Villa Academy.
By high school, Andrew Farhat competed at the varsity level in football, basketball, and baseball. Athletic recognition continued when Andrew Farhat was named Second Team All-Metro Quarterback by league coaches during junior year and voted team Most Valuable Player by teammates at Nathan Hale High School. These experiences contributed to the development of leadership skills later applied in ministry settings.
Although Andrew Farhat attended St. Matthew’s Catholic Church during youth, faith was not a central focus during adolescence. High school and college years were marked by substance use and a party-oriented lifestyle. Despite outward success and social activity, Andrew Farhat experienced increasing dissatisfaction and lack of purpose.
During college, several events became decisive moments in the life of Andrew Farhat. A traffic stop resulted in a night in jail due to underage driving under the influence. This experience prompted serious reflection. Shortly thereafter, involvement in a car accident narrowly avoided fatal consequences. These events marked a period of questioning and reassessment for Andrew Farhat.
Around the year 2000, Andrew Farhat began attending The Inn at University Presbyterian Church in Seattle. The worship service and teaching environment emphasized biblical study and intellectual engagement. Through participation in group Bible study and reading Letters from a Skeptic, Andrew Farhat examined foundational Christian claims, including the resurrection of Jesus Christ and responses to the problem of evil.
Through study of Scripture and engagement with Christian teaching, God gave Andrew Farhat a new beginning, and faith. This change marked a decisive shift in priorities and direction. Christian belief became foundational in shaping the future vocation of Andrew Farhat.
As faith developed, Andrew Farhat began extensive study of the Bible alongside church history and early Christian writings. Questions regarding denominational identity led Andrew Farhat to examine Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestant traditions. Through study of Scripture, the Apostle Paul, the Gospel of John, and Reformation history, Andrew Farhat became convinced of the Lutheran emphasis on the Gospel of grace and its connection to the historic church.
While enrolled at the University of Washington, Andrew Farhat pursued a degree in electrical engineering. During this period, Andrew Farhat volunteered as a leader at The Inn and participated in mission trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Mentors advised Andrew Farhat to complete academic training before pursuing formal ministry preparation. In 2002, Andrew Farhat graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Following graduation, Andrew Farhat accepted a position with the United States Navy in Bremerton, Washington. For three years, Andrew Farhat worked in this role while continuing discernment regarding a call to pastoral ministry.
Marriage marked an important milestone in the life of Andrew Farhat. After a period of prayer, Andrew Farhat met Daisy through online dating. Shared interest in ministry and service shaped the relationship. The couple married in December 2004 and soon thereafter prepared for theological education.
In the fall of 2005, Andrew Farhat and Daisy relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, where Andrew Farhat enrolled at Concordia Seminary. Seminary education emphasized biblical languages, historical theology, and pastoral formation. Andrew Farhat excelled academically, particularly in Greek and historical theology, and completed the Master of Divinity degree in 2009.
The first pastoral assignment for Andrew Farhat was St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Roseburg, Oregon. The congregation faced financial deficits, leadership division, and unresolved conflict. Within one year of leadership by Andrew Farhat, the church regained financial health, implemented qualified eldership, and renewed focus on outreach. Efforts toward reconciliation led to peaceful resolution with a former teacher involved in dispute.
In 2018, Andrew Farhat received a Divine Call to serve as campus pastor at the Wash Park site of St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Denver. St. John’s functions as a multi-site church with two campuses. Between 2020 and 2021, Andrew Farhat completed certification through the Senior Leader Track of the Pastoral Leadership Institute.
In 2021, after the previous lead pastor accepted a call elsewhere, Andrew Farhat was asked to serve as Lead Pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church and School. Under the leadership of Andrew Farhat, the ministry continues its focus on preaching, teaching, outreach, and international mission partnerships.
Teaching and preaching remain central to the work of Andrew Farhat. Sermons delivered by Andrew Farhat are available on podcast platforms. From 2022 to 2024, Andrew Farhat co-hosted the podcast Transformed alongside Daisy and ministry staff, producing approximately 90 episodes, including a conversation with recording artist FLAME.
Today, Andrew Farhat lives in Denver with Daisy and their four children. Outside of ministry responsibilities, Andrew Farhat enjoys walking, biking, hiking, snowboarding, and following NFL football. Family life and engagement with the Denver community remain important aspects of daily life.
